Synopsis
Using case studies, this presentation will provide input into the evaluation of various architecture and interior spaces and show how to use lighting to enhance the overall effect and mood. We will discuss options available to the designer, presentation techniques, and finally finished photos showing the end results of the method employed. The philosophy will show how lighting can direct attention, identify details, shape spaces, and create moods. Various lighting techniques such as layered lighting, shadow and highlights, and colour will be explored. The discussion will provide some insight and first hand practical examples of the challenges that face lighting designers to augment and enhance the architecture of the space.

Speaker Biography
Chip Israel is an internationally recognised lighting designer with over 33 years of experience. In 1992, he founded a full-service architectural lighting design firm, where he built a highly-select team of lighting-design professionals who now serve a variety of clients worldwide. As Founder, Chip works closely with the owner, the design team, and manufacturers to ensure lighting systems are fully integrated with the architectural design and enhance the designer’s concepts. His firm has also been recognised by winning over 100 National and International design awards, including multiple awards for sustainable lighting design.
Lectures & Seminars
Chip Israel is committed to promoting excellence in lighting design through education. As a leading industry spokesman, he has presented technical papers and educational seminars in 11 countries and lectured at over a dozen universities across the country. Chip is routinely asked to speak at domestic and international industry events - Designers Lighting Forum, Illuminating Engineering Society National, International Congress on Architecture and Technology in Germany, Energy Efficiency Program in Saudi Arabia, Light in India, various conferences and trade shows, Hospitality Design, NeoCon, and LightFair International.
Experience
Chip served as 2012-2013, President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Chip has been an instructor at UCLA and the American College of Applied Arts in the field of interior lighting. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California on the topic of Lighting and Daylighting for Architecture. Chip frequently lectures among his peers.
Chip's design experience ranges from building facade lighting, to custom fixture design, to corporate office spaces, to themed hotels and resorts. Some landmark projects that Chip has designed in the U.S. as well as Asia, and the Middle East include: First Interstate World Tower, Sanwa Plaza at Figueroa & Wilshire, Sony High Definition Post Production, Mission: Bermuda Triangle, UCLA Site Lighting Master Plan, Oakley Technical Center, Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney Institute, Disney's All Star Resort, Reliance Headquarters, LPL Headquarters, Lusail Marine Pedestrian Bridges, Wanda Nanchang Indoor Aquarium, Huafa Mall, and multiple Chimelong Hotels including the Guangzhou Panda Hotel, Chimelong Circus Hotel, and Chimelong Penguin Hotel.
