The building industry is seeing an increased interest in human health and well-being, notably through the development of health and well-being rating systems for buildings. This session will explore how the built environment impacts human health and will review the first health and well-being rating system to hit the market, the WELL Building Standard. The Light concept category, an integral part of WELL, will be explored in depth and includes areas such as daylight modelling and circadian rhythm analysis, which are of increasing interest to clients.
Interactive in nature, this evening session will include a group exercise focusing on features in the Light concept category.

About the speaker:
Kaitlyn Gillis (B.Eng (Bldg), M.Sc (Arch), M. Sc (Env Psyc), LEED AP, WELL AP, WELL Faculty, Fitwel Ambassador) is a well-being and sustainability specialist with Stantec’s Sustainability and Buildings Performance team in Edmonton, Alberta. Kaitlyn’s background in building engineering, deep green architecture, and environmental psychology allows her to understand both the social and technical sides of complex problems facing both people and planet. Kaitlyn is a WELL Faculty member and has presented and published on various topics related to the built environment, including biophilic design, health and well-being, environmental psychology, LEED.
