Jubilee Auditorium - Lighting Tour

  • Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium 11455 87 Avenue Northwest Edmonton, AB, T6G 2T2 Canada (map)

You have seen the production and now have the question “How'd they do that?”….

The Jubilee Auditorium hosts a wide range of music and theatre performances, and this is your opportunity to discover how the lighting system is used to enhance the overall experience of the event.  During this event, Edmonton Opera will be on stage with the full HMS Pinafore set, and the tour will take us through backstage, on the stage and into all the places that the audience normally doesn’t see.

Please join the IES for this behind the scenes look at the lighting and control systems that are used for the theatre productions and building operation.

The tour will start with a description of the building’s systems used for the various productions at the front of house.  Some interaction with the controls will be provided to show how the lighting effects are provided throughout the theater space.  Lighting effects will be demonstrated for the stage production.  We will also be provided with behind the screen access to see how the systems operate by going into the dimmer room, dressing room, and spot booth. There will be an opportunity for hands on operation of some stage lighting consoles and fixtures.  Tours will be led by Robert Montgomery and Kevin Humphreys.  Robert Montgomery is currently Head of Lighting at the Jubilee and a long time veteran of the theatre and event lighting industry, having designed and consulted on theatre systems in hundreds of performance spaces in Canada, and Kevin Humphreys, is Principal Lighting Operator at the Jubilee and a freelance performance designer with credits designing shows throughout Canada, Europe, and Australia.

At the conclusion of the event will be a social gathering to interact with your colleagues.

Come join us for an evening of lighting, discovery, and conversation!
