LEDs have made controlling conditions in botanical studies both easier and more consistent. But how can we be certain that our “blue” or “red” light is truly “blue” or “red” enough without knowing the exact SPD of the light sources used?
In Specifying LED Colors for Horticultural Lighting, a paper recently presented at the CORM-CIE 2019 Annual Technical Conference, Ian Ashdown proposes an LED “colour” specification that represents a given SPD using a small number of radial basis functions, to provide a metric for comparing biologically similar SPDs.
